Where can you use your Bupa Medical Coverage in Singapore

First thing first:

Bupa Insurance Medical Coverage in Singapore 

So I joined a new company recently and they are currently using Bupa Company Classic plan as part of their Business Cover for employees.

Essentially these core benefits, although, depending on the plan your company has selected, this amount and types of coverage would change. Additionally, the optional add on coverage (Optional Benefits) may or may not be purchased by your company. These optional add ons for Bupa include: e.g. USA cover, Dental treatment, Assistance cover, and Medical history disregarded.


So I know my coverage, roughly has the following.

INs

  • Full cover for cancer, in-patient and day-case treatment plus 28 days emergency cover for the U.S.
  • Cover for out-patient treatment, including wellness tests, consultations, therapists and complementary medicine practitioners
  • Vaccinations
  • Maternity cover
  • Dental option
  • Overall annual maximum of:
  • GBP 900,000 / 
  • USD 1.5 million / 
  • EUR 1 million

OUTs

  • No health screening ("Please be advised that the pre-authorisation is not approved as your policy does not cover the health screening."
  • No GP/ family doctor visits ("Consultation, family doctor")

Now that I am on this policy, I have sought out to understand it further. The outs listed above mainly the lack of GP visits is a bit a of shocker.

As I was only directed to their website to source most of my information. So only when I joined my new company did I actually see my specific medical policy as it was difficult to source this information from Bupa at the time.

One of things I wanted to know, is are there any special rules or places that I can only go to in order to ensure I receive medical coverage. That is, medical consultations that I can be either:
  1. be pre-paid or directly paid by Bupa the insurance company or 
  2. I pay first and have it reimbursed by Bupa. 

It seems like the latter is the case.
